Sponge Bob & Patrick shave their heads for the KiDS in Honduras!

And exactly who was it playing our "Honorable Judge the Lord"?

It is Sheree Reece! Her favorite thing about playing the role of God was finally, finally being all-knowing. In real life Sheree is mother of 3 and works in Beyond KC Missions at Resurrection.

VBC Drama Director Tina Allen

Tina Allen, in a previous life prior to 3 kids, worked in regional theater, where her favorite role was playing Mrs. Anna in "The King and I". She is the extraordinary individual who is in charge of drama for VBC. She says she couldn't do it alone and credits these fine folks for help:
Christy Kelley, Debbie Harris, and Chris Heise.

The Shaving Cream War!

Sponge Bob versus Patrick

In a very unscientific survey, we asked the kids who their favorite character was this week. Approximately 60% chose Sponge Bob; 40% chose Patrick. All 100 respondents agreed they like seeing their shaved heads.

A GREAT WEEK OF CAMP!!

VBC 2011 is over, what a great week!!! Camp ended with a bang as the Leawood fire department brought their truck and soaked the campers!! This could be the highlight of camp. What was your kid's favorite part of camp? Leave a comment and let everyone know!

Out of the Whale, Into the City!

It may have been raining outside Thursday, but inside it was a sea of activity at VBC. After 3 days and 3 nights inside the whale's belly, it took a whole lot of praying and obeying God for Jonah to get out of the whale!

Day 4 - Missions Totals

Mr. Salty and Captain Mack think our VBC campers are the best! Here are the totals as of Day 4:
Bedding for KC Kids - 702
Money for El Obraje Kids - $4,584.36

Day 3 Drama - God speaks to the "King" of Ninevah

If you see a "National Enquirer" headline reporting: Elvis sighted in Kansas, there may be a little truth to it. You see, our very own Elvis impersonator stopped by drama yesterday to represent the King of ninevah. Jonah helped the King of Rock & Roll learn who the real King is - as did our campers.

Matthew's Ministry Part of VBC

Our Matthew's Ministry is actively involved with VBC. Nine special needs adults and lots of kids participate in the VBC Matthew's Ministry program. Children can be provided with one-on-one assistance as well. It's a great program and young and old alike enjoy the week learning about God.

Now this is cool!

Meet the real live Patrick

Connor Neal, aka Patrick the Star, in real life is a junior at BV North, plays football, and also works in our nursery. He loves buggles.

Meet the real live Sponge Bob

Bryan Burks, aka Sponge Bob Square Pants, in real life works with kids in the inner city. He also loves cheese balls.

Day 3 - Rec, Crafts, & Snack

If the kids weren't busy creating their cool crosses, they were busy playing with parachutes. All that activity works up an appetite. Preschool through third grade were served whale crackers and jelly beans. Our older grades, 4th and 5th, were served popcorn just like our Jonah popping out of the whale.

Missions 2011 Update - Day 3

Mr. Salty and Captain Mack have been sharing the message with campers: To much as been given, much is expected. Wow! Our campers are great listeners and doers! Special note: If we reach our $8,000 goal by Friday, Sponge Bob and Patrick will shave their heads on stage!
Beds for Every Body total - 395Money for El Obraje - $3,133.21
Great work Campers - our greatest need is mattress pads!

Day 3 Missions Totals

4th and 5th graders were busy today helping children around the world and here in KC. They made:
60 blankets for the bedding drive, 430 health kits for Heart to Heart, 350 cards for kids receiving beds, and 50 friendship bracelets for Resurrection mission trips.

Don't forget to join us for VBC Family Night on Thursday

"What did you do today?"  It is a question commonly asked from parents of their campers. That's why this year, everyone is invited to share in the fun. No fish on the menu but lots of games, food, and fun from 5:00pm - 7:30pm. Bring your own picnic or purchase from a wide selection of treats.

Hump Day: Lessons Learned at Sea

Jonah is in quite a predicament landing in the mouth of a very large, large whale. We're talking some deep sea praying happening here for Jonah to get out of the whale.

VBC Day 3 - What do you think happens to Jonah today?

Day 2 Lessons at Sea: You can Run, But You Can't Hide

That is what Jonah is finding out as he disobeyed God's instructions to go to Nineveh and ended up tossed into the ocean. And a good story always leaves us asking, "What next?" Come find out what happens to Jonah in the Deep Blue Sea.
Theme verse:  Blessed are those who hear the word of the Lord and obey it. Luke 11:28

Building Marshmallow Mountain: Missions 2011

Mr. Salty and Captain Mack were on hand to deliver campers the good news today.
Here are the Missions totals as of end of camp on Tuesday:
209 items for the "Beds for Every Body" project.
This project provides beds and bedding for children in KC that don't have them and are forced to sleep on the floor.
CAMPERS: Our greatest needs are blankets and mattress pads. Thanks for all the pillows!

Money for the village of El Obraje in Honduras: $1,515.51.This year's goal is $8,000.00. 3,000 villagers in El Obraje do not have access to clean water. We will be purchasing water filtration systems for this village. GREAT JOB VBC CAMPERS!

Keeping Campers Busy

If singing, learning, dancing, and drama weren't enough to keep campers busy and happy, we offered up flag football and made our own travel mugs in craft. Apparently, we ran out of time to do a little fishing, but there's still four days left. Wait and see. Water is certain to be in our campers' future!

VBC Music

Our Vacation Bible Camp music is from GO FISH....and their newest CD titled "Kickin It Old School".
Go Fish, a Christian rock group, is the music our campers will be singing and dancing to this year. Go Fish's new CD is called "Kickin' it Old School" and turns long time favorites into new time favorites. This CD is a winner for all age groups, including a few of us who rocked to the music of the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

The cd will be available at the church bookstore during camp for $5.00 or you can purchase them on Itunes!

The CD is AWESOME!!!

What Happens To Our VBC Offering?

Each year Vacation Bible Camp collects thousands of dollars to donate to special missions projects across the world. Last year our money went to Sweet Sleep to build beds for children in Haiti. A few months ago Sweet Sleep brought these completed beds to Haiti. They were kind enough to make a video of what took place. Check out the video below and see where our 2010 VBC money went to.
