No Detail Unnoticed!

Typically there are three things VBC campers get really excited about: "celebrity" appearances (this year it was Luke Heaven Walker and R2D2), inflatables in rec, and, leave no doubt, the snack. There are many creative volunteers who help prepare the games and the snacks, which incidentally are tied to the Bible stories. Snack on Tuesday was VBC's version of a light saber...pretzel sticks with frosting...on Thursday it was whale crackers and gummy snakes, reinforcing the lesson of Paul's shipwreck and his encounter with a viper. Ahhh, those volunteers are always thinking of ways to teach our campers!

This Little Light of Mine, I'm Going to let it Shine

VBC campers are making night lights this week at camp. Check out what they look like. Thanks to our craft volunteers who worked hard preparing the materials ahead of time and helping the kids make their VBC crafts. In 4th and 5th grade, the kids made friendship bracelets and bookmarks for mission's projects. Pre-K - 3rd grade also made gift bags for the Hope Center.
5,449 Books Donated by Campers (includes Thursday totals)

There are thousands of kids in Kansas City who have never gotten to hold their very own book in their hands. Thanks to the help of our campers, we are changing that. Donations of new or gently used books are pouring in! Keep up the great work.

It's a little Russian; It's a Little Hip Hop

Whatever you call it, VBC is using a catchy jingle and dance to teach our campers the Fruit of the Spirit. They are not...bananas, watermelon or mulberries...but they are Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control. Ask your little rapper to recite them. You'll be impressed!

Just heard a story about 5 year old Lucia who slept on the floor last night to see what it was like for the millions of kiddos who don't have a bed. When she woke up in the morning she collected a bunch of change around the house and brought it to VBC for our mission project! WOW! Anyone else have a story about how the mission project is impacting your kiddos?
Thanks kids and parents!
It's Complicated
It's not easy explaining to children how Saul turns into Paul. So, VBC borrowed from the Star Wars trilogy to make sense of it all. Just as Anakin Skywalker turns to the dark side and becomes Darth Vader (who later does a 360-thanks to the Force of his son Luke) so goes our Bible story. Saul and his evil ways are defeated by the Force of Christ and he becomes Paul. Paul experiences an amazing, exalting journey as an apostle of Christ, and our campers get to witness it first-hand this week through stories, drama, and music.
A Day in the Life of a VBC Camper

A camper's day begins with a class prayer, followed by a Faith Wars communique', delivered via video. Today it was a message from our very own VBC Princess Leia. The campers head to drama and music, then back to the classroom for story time. When the lesson is done, kids go to rec or craft. Always, there is a delicious snack. After all, all good Padawans need to be rewarded.

We have arrived!

A long, long time ago, actually, it was last fall, in a galaxy, not so far away, the VBC committee began planning 2010 Vacation Bible Camp. This dedicated group has ensured every detail in the Galatic, err, the camp, is ready: Bible stories, a weeks' worth of drama and music, crafts, recreation, and snacks. The mission is to help your youngling become a great warrior for Christ. Thanks to this group for creating the exciting week ahead of us!
Let the games begin!
George Lucas worked hard to turn out six Star Wars films, but our own version of Jedi Knights, (the VBC teachers) worked hard yesterday to prepare their classrooms. The drama sets are complete, the costumes are sewn, the lessons are written, and the teachers are here! The doors have opened for over 1,300 campers. May The Force be with all our volunteers!
